End Citizens United And Its Innovative Campaigns

End Citizens United refers to a political action committee that has been campaigning finance reform. Even though it started on a small scale, it is becoming quite big now. This is because they are planning to get into funneling millions of dollars. This will be done as they will be supporting those Democratic candidates who are into House as well as Senate races. They are not doing it for any particular State as such but doing this all across the US.

The End Citizens United group managed to rise close to $2 million in collections. All this has come only through donations coming in from small donors. They are planning collections between $25 – 30 million in this entire cycle.

The PAC is focused on getting a constitutional amendment passed to reverse the decision of the Supreme Court that was given in 2010. It had led to super PACs coming up leading to huge amounts of dark money being able to enter politics in an easy manner. Over 325,000 people have signed the petition by End Citizens United. This is a petition in which there is a demand that Congress has to pass such legislation.

They also have a lot of other plans in the pipeline that will increase this number in a big way. The End Citizens United has entered into a partnership with the “Ready for Hillary” campaign. Here, they will be sharing their email list of nearly 4 million people with them so that they are able to reach their potential supporters.

The endorsement of 11 Democratic candidates has already been announced. These are Russ Feingold of Wisconsin in addition to Michael Bennet of Colorado. They both are former Senators. With such endorsements, their campaign will surely get a big boost.

The fact is that End Citizens United is one among many other PAC’s that focus on campaign finance reform. The difference is that it is a Group looking at the political angle also. They are trying such people to get elected who would be willing and keen to change the existing laws. This is why the Group is backing only those candidates who are favoring finance reform and will be standing up with End Citizens United.

They will be setting up an expenditure arm very soon as they are going to back their candidates financially. This will be done in a big way. The initiatives would include television ads, direct mailers along with polling. All this is going to require a lot of money.

These campaign finance reforms will also be on local along with state level. After all, any constitutional amendment has to win consent that has to come from two-thirds of Senate and from the House too. It has to be ratified by three-fourths of states to win consent.

End Citizens United Is Fighting Against Big Money In Washington

In 2010 the Supreme Court made a decision in Citizens United vs. F.E.C. which changed the way politicians can raise money in American elections on endcitizensunited.org. It did this by establishing the legal basis for the idea that corporations are people; people that can donate their money any way they see fit. This opened the door for the ultra-rich and special interest groups to spend unlimited amounts of money on American elections on Facebook. There is no transparency, no accountability and, worst of all, no way to track the money. In short, the Citizens United decision allows the ultra rich to influence American politics more than ever before.

End Citizens United, is a political action committee, or PAC, that is dedicated to reforming political financing. They plan to do this by supporting the politicians that work toward overturning the Citizens United decision. By ending Citizens United, End Citizens United would stop the unlimited flow of hidden campaign contributions that have been pouring into the American political system.

More than 325,000 people have signed End Citizens United’s petition demanding that Congress pass the necessary legislation. While it’s true there are many other PAC’s focused on finance reform, End Citizens United’s communications director, Richard Carbo says this PAC is different. “There was a hole in the conversation addressing the political side of it and actually getting people elected who could change existing laws. That means backing candidates who are in favor of campaign finance reform on endcitizensunited.org, who will stand up against Citizens United. In addition to those who are under attack by the billionaire conservative Koch brothers and other related dark-money groups.”

The Koch brothers are possibly the biggest winners of the Citizens United decision. The Koch brothers are owners of the second largest privately run business in America, Koch Industries. According to Forbes, Koch Industries has an annual revenue of $115 billion dollars. The Koch’s where ordered to pay $30 million in civil penalties in 1996. The largest penalty in the history of U.S environmental law.  Former EPA administrator Carol Browner, said of the Koch’s, “They simply did not believe the law applied to them.” According to a Bloomberg report, from 1999 to 2003, Koch Industries was assessed a further “$400 million in fines, penalties and judgments.”

A large portion of the Koch’s wealth still comes from oil refineries in Texas, Alaska and Minnesota. They also control more than 4,000 miles of oil pipeline throughout the United States. America as a country can’t afford to stand by while the ultra-rich like the Koch brothers use Super PAC’s to influence the outcome of elections.
