Looking to the Future of India with Vijay Eswaran

Many people who are just entering the workforce are job seekers and tend to stay that way for the rest of their careers. This can stifle careers, at least according to QI Group executive chairman Datuk Seri Vijay Eswaran, he believes students should consider taking more risks and working towards becoming a job creator instead.

“The world is moving forward very fast and jobs are changing with artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics taking over. On the other hand, the population has grown,” Eswaran notes. This combination will lead to less traditional jobs moving forward, making room for more job creators where those who stick to just being job seekers their whole careers might find less opportunity.

Vijay Eswaran does, however, make note of the actuality that most people will have to start as job seekers out the door, taking the time to “pay their dues” while learning valuable experience in their markets and in business.

To this effect, another piece of advice Eswaran has is to seek jobs that not only match your qualifications but your personality as well, to bloom and grow to your full potential. By this, he makes the case of considering a working at startups for those who like to think outside the box and love to take on a lot of responsibility right from the start.

This, he believes, allows employees to see and participate in the full business cycle from beginning to end, giving them a well-rounded set of skill and experience that will help when trying to become that job creator.

Others he notes would be more suited to working for long-standing companies that tend to offer a more structured environment where the workers lean towards specializing in specific areas of the business, leading to becoming an expert in that area. It all depends on the worker’s personality, “To me, neither is better than the other and it completely depends on your personality, work style, and unique needs to determine which will be the best for you and your career,” he affirms.
