The Message that Director Kamil Idris has given about Intellectual Property

There is a growing popularity for the world intellectual property day. It is only a few years after the event was launched and many companies have come out to join the movement. The annual celebrations happened last April and among the people who spoke at the event is Kamil Idris, the director of the hosting organization.

There are still a lot of people who do not understand the importance of intellectual property rights. Not many people understand that without intellectual property rights, most of the modern technology which has greatly simplified life would not be in existence. It is therefore unfortunate that when people are thinking about great events such as the Olympics, global warming and other world issues, they do not consider intellectual property to hold the same weight or importance.

The establishment of the world intellectual property day was aimed at achieving two things; the enormous power of intellectual property, and the property rights that have become central in fueling this creativity. IP makes such a huge impact in driving economic, cultural and social development and as such, it needs to be respected. The good thing about the inventions which have been made in the past one hundred years is that we are now able to travel effortlessly through the air, use locomotives and also send and receive messages across the world in a matter of milliseconds.

WIPO wants to make sure that the sanctity of this intellectual property is constantly upheld. On the day of the event, tribute is paid to the people who have been behind the various inventions across the globe. Professor Kamil Idris felt that by establishing these awards, he would be creating more awareness about intellectual property rights and their importance.

Kamil Idris was born in Sudan. He is the Director General of WIPO and also the Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of Plant Varieties. Idriss got his masters in international law from the University of Ohio. He also holds a Ph.D. from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He is an inspiration to many.
