One thing that I have noticed in recent years working inside our state prison is that the violence has significantly escalated. Inmates have to deal with severely overcrowded conditions, and they are often put in close quarters with rival gangs, which only makes things worse for anyone who has to work or live behind these prison walls.
Now add into the mix weapons, drugs, and long prison sentences, and you see why inmates are lashing out towards authority to try and get their message out that they either want to rule the jails or they are simply not going to conform to the rules.
To try and slow down the episodes of violence, my team of corrections officers have had to make use of some pretty amazing technology. One company in particular, Securus Technologies, has been instrumental in helping officers to not only get back control of the prison, but to allow us to be in the position to anticipate when bad things are about to occur.
Securus Technologies has their main headquarters based in Dallas, Texas, and the company CEO and all employees have made it clear they are dedicated to making the world a safer place for us to all live. We knew this was going to be a great partnership when we discovered the company already had their inmate call monitoring system in 2,600 jails around the country.
The LBS software now does the work of a team of corrections officers, scanning inmate calls from the jail phone, and giving my crew the chance to be a bigger presence on the grounds. When inmates are using the jail phones now and try to talk about contraband, drugs, gangs, weapons, or violence, we get alerts and can take care of these issues before the situation becomes a dangerous one for all my crew.
